Meet Your MBA Colleagues

Alex Goodwin

Hi, my name is Alex Goodwin, and I am a first year MBA student at LSU. I am from a small town called Independence. I attended Independence High School where I played football and soccer. Some of you may not know this, but I have a twin brother who is equally as handsome as I am (identical). I know what you’re thinking, cool right? Well, yes it is pretty cool most of the time, but there are always those awkward occasions when someone thinks they know me, but in fact know my brother. That’s when I have to decide to play along or tell them, which almost always ends with the other person becoming really embarrassed and usually running off.

Coming from a small town I wanted to live and go to school in a much larger place and Baton Rouge seemed just like the right size to me, so I enrolled in LSU. I started out as a general business major. Then, after taking my first marketing class with Dr. Tommy Karam, I knew I found what I wanted to major in. I graduated from LSU in December of 2007, at that time I knew I wanted to join the MBA program but I would have to wait a semester before I could start. Instead of waiting, I decided to start a full-time job and go back to grad school at a later date.

I began working as a B2B Outside Salesman for an industrial supply company. I gained a lot of valuable experience from this position and made some great contacts, but my heart was not into sales. My long-term goal was to be a marketing or PR manager and I realized that I needed to further my education to increase my chances of achieving this goal. So after a year and a half of the real world I came back to school.

Currently, I am working as a PR and Event Planning Intern for the Tiger Athletic Foundation. I help organize special events, such as golf tournaments, tailgate parties and awards banquets that recognize our donors.   I love what I do each and every day there and I couldn’t think of a better place to work than for LSU Athletics. I enjoy working in the sports field and would like to continue upon graduation.

If you are still reading this far, just remember the next time you see me, it might actually be my brother and the joke is going to be on you!
