Meet Your MBA Colleagues

Emily Halphen

Hello everyone! My name is Emily Halphen and I am a second year MBA student. I tell everyone I’m from Baton Rouge, but I’ve actually lived all over. I was born in Baton Rouge and have lived in the area for the last 10 years, but have also lived in Midland, Michigan and Tokyo, Japan. In addition to Japan, I’ve also been lucky enough to travel all over Europe and Asia, visiting places like Thailand, Malaysia, South Korea, Hong Kong, Belgium, France, and England. I love to travel and really hope to make it to Australia and South Africa one day soon!

I received my undergraduate degree, a B.S. in Marketing, from LSU in May 2008. As an undergrad, I was involved in several organizations including Zeta Tau Alpha sorority, Mu Kappa Tau, College Republicans, and Up ‘Til Dawn. After finishing my undergraduate degree, I had no clue what I wanted to do with my life, so I decided to start the MBA program that fall. After many changes in my concentration (marketing, finance, HR, and any possible combinations of the three!), I decided to settle on a concentration in Human Resource Management. I spent the summer of 2009 interning in Houston, TX for ExxonMobil’s exploration company’s HR division. I fell in love with the city of Houston and am returning there this summer to start my full time job as an Associate for a HR consulting firm called Employee Benefit Solutions. As for a career goal, I’d love to one day be a Principal for a consulting firm.

For the past few months, I’ve been holding the role of Social Chair for the MBAA and VP-Events for NAWMBA. I love planning events, so the job seemed perfect for me. I also work as a GA for the E.J. Ourso College of Business Office of Advancement and am a member of the LSU Chapter of SHRM (Society for Human Resource Management). In my (very little) spare time, you’ll probably find me shopping, sleeping, at the gym, or if it’s warm, there’s a very good chance you’ll find me poolside!

The idea of graduating in a few months seems intimidating, but I know that my six years as a Tiger will stick with me wherever I go! I’ll miss the people, the food, and the football, but I have no doubt I’ll make it back to Baton Rouge as often as possible!
